What does a monitor technician do?

Overview and job description

A monitor technician observes the heartbeats and electrocardiograms (EKG) of patients in intensive care units or ICUs. They typically work in hospitals and sit at computers outside of patients’ rooms to perform their job.

It can be confusing what a "monitor technician" is because hospitals will also use the job titles telemetry technician, cardiac monitor technician, 12-lead EKG tech and more. The fact that nurses and nurse assistants are adding this becoming certified adds even more titles to the mix.

We provide the skills you need to work in any of these roles and break the learning into two separate courses, titled arrhythmia interpretation and 12-lead ECG.

Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) Program

Pacific Medical Training's stress test Holter monitor and monitor tech courses are approved to participate in the MyCAA Spouse Education program. Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) Program is an employment assistance program that provides up to $4,000 of financial assistance to eligible military spouses who are pursuing a license, certification, or Associate’s degree in a portable career field and occupation.
