The following mnemonic directs the AHA accepted sequence of the secondary
survey in Emergency Cardiac Care (ECC):

Intervention |
| A |
Airway: Intubate if not breathing. Assess bilateral breath sounds
for proper tube placement. |
| B |
Breathing: Provide positive pressure ventilations
with 100% O2. |
| C |
Circulation: If no pulse continue CPR, obtain IV
access, give proper medications. |
| D |
Differential Diagnosis: Attempt to identify treatable
causes for the problem. |
